Amazon to Launch ‘Hologram’ Phone While True Hologram Phones Are Less Than Two Years Away

It was exciting news last week for those of us who want to finally see holographic porn arrive on the market.

Amazon released a teasing trailor of its new mystery product to be announced on June 18th that appeared to confirm that the phone will feature 3D holograms.  These likely won’t be ‘true’ holograms that actually float in space, but rather something that gives the illusion of a 3D hologram.  Using four different eye and head tracking front cameras on the phone, it is likely Amazon’s product will shift the image in the display to create the illusion of the three dimensional object appearing behind the screen.  It is not yet known if the phone will also feature stereoscopic 3D tech.

Meanwhile, true holographic phones, which actually re-create the light pattern of the original object  and project it beyond the screen of the phone, look to be arriving as early as the end of the next year.

Real holograms, that float as 3D images in the air, are finally here. The company that’s made the breakthrough, Ostendo, has created a hologram with its 5,000ppi projectors that it plans to fit into smartphones in the second half of 2015.

The hologram is created using six projectors that layer light to create an image floating in the air, like a real solid object.

The discovery has come from fusing an image processor with a wafer of micro LEDs to create the Quantum Photonic Imager. The end result is a projector that’s about the size of a Tic Tac powered by the chip which controls the colour, brightness and angle of each beam of light.
